Involved with the subject "Educational leadership", Elna as teacher became aware of the problems contemporary children struggle with. On her farm, Mooigelegen, where horses always the centre of attention was, visitors came to escape the busy life they find themselves in. The therapeutic essence of the visit to the farm was clearly visible. Elna decided to study further in Horse Facilitated Psychotherapy and established Moooikrans in 1994.

Elna not only has an Educational Diploma and BA Psycology degree but is currently a member of the Equine Facilitated Mental Health association in the USA.

 

 

 

Instructors

After attending a training course and being selected, several instructors work part-time during camps. The majority of the persons are full-time students from universities with a passion for training, horses and people.

I discovered Mooikrans in the winter of 2008 when a good friend of mine, Jeanette Beetge, asked me if I would substitute the chef during the June holidays of that year. Although I was busy studying at the International Hotel School, I was not a Chef. But I thought it would be nice to work during the holidays and that my cooking skills would not disappoint me preparing for 40 people. Thank goodness Leah, our current Chef, started working at Mooikrans a day after my arrival.

I figured tannie Elna didn't need my help any more but Jeanette remembered that I know my way around horses. Although it has been seven years since I last was on a horse's back, it all came naturally. I stood in as personnel for the rest of the holiday and had to figure out everything fast.

At first I was a bit nervous to work with children but today I wouldn't exchange it for anything else. I truly found my hart at Mooikrans Equus. It's the place where I can brake away from the strange hold daily life place around you. It's on the back of a horse during an exciting gallop across the open planes of the veldt where one can feel Gods presence as well.

I started to work every holiday at Mooikrans. I finished my National and International Diploma in Hospitality Management this year. Three days after my final examination I decided to work permanently for Mooikrans.
The work I have done so far is part of my practical for my Diploma.
